Mark3:7-19 "Divine Strategy"

We see in this passage the context in which Jesus calls His twelve disciples.

We see the divine strategy of Jesus for meeting the needs of the world.

We see His strategy for expanding the Kingdom of God through multiplication of His own ministry in the lives of others.

The Calling (3:7-13)

Notice three things:

  1. A Sovereign desire.
  2. A Spiritual calling.
  3. A Serious response.

Jesus’ divine strategy for reaching the world was more than His life and ministry on earth two thousand years ago.

  • What would happen when He left?
  • How could the work of the kingdom be carried on in the ages to come?

The divine strategy is still unfolding today. You and I are a part of that strategy.

The need was great and the people responded when they heard the news. The need is still great today and many will still respond if only the word gets out.

There must be a serious response to the considered call of Jesus if we would be His disciple.

The Conditioning (3:14-15)

The conditioning process prepares us for ministry.

Three important reasons Jesus calls us to Himself. He does so that we might:

  1. Share His life.
  2. Share His work.
  3. Share His power.

The Commissioning (3:16-19)

Notice three words which characterize those whom Jesus calls:

  1. The plurality of His calling.
Here we see that Christianity begins as a group. God intended that we live in fellowship with other believers.
  2. Live out your faith in diversity.
Only as we come together in Him on the basis of His common life in us are we going to experience Christian fellowship.
  3. Individuality.
The diverse plurality of God’s people is a group that must live out its ministry as individuals.

Jesus calls us, but He also conditions us, in order that He might commission us to be His disciples.
