Mark 6:1-6 "Believing Is Seeing"

How can I be sure not to miss out on God’s best for my life?

We must discover those attitudes and responses which will unlock the opportunities and promises of God for us.

In our text, we see a contrast being drawn:

  • Unlock the power of God.
  • Lock up power of God.
  • Faith.
  • Unbelief.

This story reveals the power of unbelief and wrong attitudes to limit the movement of God.

Do we possess the same attitudes?

The Cause

What was the cause of their unbelief?

  • Limited views.
We must learn to see beyond our own natural understanding
  • Limited hearts.
They did not want to believe.
  • Limited lives.

The Consequences

What are the consequences of this unbelief?

  • The power of God is locked up. (v5)
  • The provision is limited.
  • The promises are lost.

Hebrews 4:1, 2 gives us a principle for receiving the promises of God.

In order to be the recipient of the promises of God, we must respond in faith.

Hebrews also teaches that everything we receive from God, we receive by faith.

The Cure

What is the cure for unbelief? Faith

What is faith? How do we receive it?

  • It is trust in Jesus.
  • It is trust born out of relationship to Him.
  • It is trust which comes from knowing Him.

How do we come to the place where we really believe Him, trust Him, and are willing to step beyond where we can see?

Romans 10:17 holds the answer!

Faith grows as we:

  • Give attention to what God says in His Word.
  • Open our Bible and study it.
  • Seek God in prayer to reveal by His Holy Spirit the lessons contained in the Bible.

We must approach the Lord with openness and expectancy.
