Philippians 1:7-11 "How To Be A Blessing"

The most important things in life are not things but people.

Materialism is:

  • As seductive as ever.
  • The major driving force of our society.

God created us to be in a relationship to people.

How can we be a blessing to people?

If we want to be a blessing, the first thing we must do is…

Show Love For Others (vss. 7-8)

That we can love one another is evidence that we belong to Christ.

Romans 5:5

When we become a Christian, God grants us the capacity to love one another.

John 13:34-35

Our love is evidence of our discipleship.

How do we show love for others?

  1. By what you say – in words.
  2. By what you do – in deeds.

It doesn’t have to be something big, just little things.

We must not only show love for others, we must…

Pray For Others (vss. 9-11)

Prayer for others is the obligation and privilege of every Christian. Ephesians 6:18

Prayer is something every Christian can do.

Pray positively for others.

Don’t criticize them and pray for them to change to suit you.

Pray for God’s blessing on/in their lives.

In our text, Paul prays for four specific things.

  1. That they may grow in love. (v. 9)
  2. That they may choose the best. (v. 10a)
  3. That they would have holy character. (v. 10b)
  4. That they may do what is right. (v. 11)

The highest honor that we have as Christians is to bring praise to God.

Do you want to be a blessing to others?

Begin by: showing love. Show love by what you say and what you do.

Then pray for others: Pray earnestly, faithfully, daily. Pray they’ll grow in love, they’ll choose the best, they’ll have holy character and they’ll do what’s right.

Do these things and you will be a blessing.
