Philippians 1:12-14 "Gaining God's Perspecitve"
How do you view life?
How you view life is called your worldview.
Your worldview is your understanding of how life works and why it works that way.
Our worldview is our life-view.
How will you respond when things happen to you?
Belief determines behavior.
The Choices
Our choices concerning what we believe will directly impact our worldview.
It is possible to choose a worldview.
Our most important choice: to surrender our lives to Jesus Christ.
Joshua 24:15 – “…choose for yourselves…”
“You gotta serve somebody – it may be the devil or it may be the Lord, but you gotta serve somebody.” Bob Dylan
There are two perspectives on life:
- Life is arbitrary – stuff just happens.
Eccl. 1:2 – life is meaningless. - Life is purposeful – God works in the stuff.
Romans 8:28
This is the worldview of the Christian.
The Results
Choices have consequences. Proverbs 1:29-31.
Choices have consequences for us and for others. Prov. 22:6.
When we adopt a worldview that says that God is in control two things will happen:
- It will be a witness to non-Christians. (v. 13)
People can relate to other people who have gone through what they are going through. - It will be an encouragement to Christians. (v. 14)
We need God’s perspective to become our perspective, if we are going to make a difference in the world.
We need to have God’s perspective if:
- We are going to enjoy life to the full.
- We are going to be able to deal with the difficulties of life without being overwhelmed by them.
God’s perspectives are revealed in the Bible. We can:
- Believe it.
- Trust it.
- Live by it.
